Flashphone 2 became flaphone and moved to new domain

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

We have finished flashphone 2 as we promised, but we renamed it to flaphone and moved to www.flaphone.com domain, all user data was moved to new service as well, so all flashphone.ru users and their accounts, including SIP accounts moved to flaphone.com, they can login and continue using our service. All new users have to pass registration procedure. We’ve spent a lot of time trying to make service more convenient and to add features our users were asking us for… we couldn’t add all features they asked :) but we added a lot. Now users can use contact list, can add/edit/remove SIP accounts right in flash app, can check their callhistory, can send and receive instant messages to each other and to/from SIP because flaphone supports SIP IM, flapone supports new flash player 10 feature - Speex audio codec,  it supports h263/h263+/h264 codecs for SIP video calls, it supports fullscreen video chat, it supports presence - now you can see if your buddies are online, we added convenient select of SIP account for call (removed hard for most users routing system), we’ve improved CallMe widget - now you can enable keypad to send DTMF via it and many other things…  I think it’s better to check everything by yourselves - welcome http://www.flaphone.com

Interoperability Testing Completed for PortaSwitch IP and Flashphone

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Interoperability testing between PortaOne’s PortaSwitch IP multimedia subsystem and Flashphone from Innovative Systems of Communication LLC has been completed successfully. Flashphone is a softphone client. The interoperable solution offers reliable peer-to-peer and peer-to-whoever phone calls.

“With both consumers and organizations of all sizes looking for ways to reduce costs, a ‘call via Web site’ capability is a highly attractive offering in today’s global economy,” said Roman Khalenkov, sales and marketing director for PortaOne. “The mutual support of PortaSwitch and Flashphone creates an instant value-add for service providers that can build loyalty and increase revenues.”

According to the companies:

Flashphone, based on InnoSystems’ Zingaya(TM) Media Server VoIP gateway, is a “call via Web site” solution for free or low-cost IP telephony. For end-users, Flashphone requires nothing more than a Web browser and sufficient bandwidth, along with a PC headset and the free Adobe Flash Player plug-in. The service can be offered free for peer-to-peer calls, or at low cost for calls to regular phone numbers.

InnoSystems’ Flashphone is a market-ready softphone enhancement for PortaSwitch, PortaOne’s flagship VoIP services platform. PortaSwitch is a software-based communication services and subscriber management solution that allows IP telephony services providers to unify voice, data and fax traffic within a single network. The comprehensive, Class 5 product consists of a softswitch and application servers, delivering SIP call control, unified messaging, IP Centrex and IP PBX, voice VPN, callback management, billing and provisioning and much more.

“PortaOne and Flashphone is a powerful combination that can be offered both as an end-user product and a solution for e-Commerce, businesses or call centers,” said Alexey Aylarov, project manager of InnoSystems. “Interoperability with PortaOne demonstrates Flashphone’s flexibility and reliability in supporting leading-edge IP multimedia systems.”

Some info about next flashphone.

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

After some work with 3rd parties RTMP implementations (Red5, Wowza) we’ve decided to create our own one, because we don’t need fully functional Flash Media Server as we don’t use a lot of it’s functions. Our implementation is lightweight and there is only functionality required for our services. In the next flashphone release we going to add H.263+ and H.264 video codecs support. That doesn’t mean that flash player will encode to H.264 directly and quality will become comparable with H.264, but it allows to use flashphone with external systems supporting H.264. Zingaya Media Server will be updated as well.

gtalk2voip

Flashphone is web-based SIP softphone, gtalk2voip is very interesting internet service allows users to:

  • Calling SIP phones and SIP services.
  • Receiving calls to your IM from any SIP phone.

with MSN, gtalk and Yahoo messengers. Both services are free. We’ve made some test calls and found it working very well. For example, if someone is online in Gtalk and you want to call him from flashphone you just need to enter SIP URI like sip:google_username@gtalk2voip.com and gtalk user will see incoming call. You also can easily call to flashphone from gtalk via gtalk2voip, add contact like [flashphone_login]_at_flashphone.ru@gtalk2voip.com and call to this contact, flashphone will ring if user online. If you remember our cool feature - CallMe widget, you can setup your widget to call directly your gtalk messenger if enter appropriate SIP URI as number to call.

P.S. We will continue our work with gtalk2voip to find new interesting features.

Google Chrome. New browser from Google

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Google makes very good internet applications and for good experience with their internet applications they decided to release their desktop application :) As we got flash-based service we were wondering if there was flash available in Chrome. And it’s available, looks like Chrome uses standart plugin used by Firefox, Opera and others. Another big benefit is SPEED. Chrome is very fast. No, really, I thought that Opera is fast, but Chrome is faster :) Even if you aren’t going to use it you have to install and take a look, as we see Google can make good desktop apps as well.

Flashphone AIR version released. The World’s first SIP softphone based on Adobe AIR technology.

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Many Flashphone users (about 75000 now) like our browser-based SIP softphone as zero downloads and installations are required. But if you are using flashphone to receive incoming calls it’s not always convenient, that it’s browser-based and for the people, who likes our service, we created AIR version of Flashphone. Now you can install it in few click with Adobe AIR runtime (if it’s not installed yet) and get real SIP softphone which works in the same way like browser-based one, but you can minimize it to system tray and be sure that you are online and ready to receive calls. Sure there are lot of things to improve in this version, so we are expecting feedback from our users. Here is Install badge:

P.S. Forgot to mention - SIP providers accounts are to be added via web interface yet

Flashphone now supports RTMPE protocol. All your private data is encrypted.

Monday, September 1st, 2008

As promised we’ve updated flashphone service and now it supports encrypted connections to server. But if you want to use this benefit you need to have Flash player version 9,0,115 or higher, we recommend to upgrade if you have older one.

P.S. Flashphone continues to work with older versions of Flash player (starting from 9), but encryption isn’t available in this case. And don’t foget to clear your browser’s cache to let it download new version of flashphone ;)

Flashphone.ru RTMP connections support now is provided by Wowza Media Server

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Flashphone.ru RTMP protocol for streaming media for a long time was supported by Red5 server, but after some time we’ve found out that under a big load usage of opensource product wasn’t the best idea. We’ve worked together with Wowza Team to find the way of creating Zingaya plugin for their media server. I want to say big thanks to them, their feedback was always fast. Now all incoming RTMP connections are handled by Wowza and then data is passed to Zingaya plugin which handles all other stuff, like SIP/RTP/transcoding/routing etc. Another great benefit of Wowza Media Server is that after version 1.5.3 release it supports RTMPE/RTMPTE protocols and this allows us to make our service very secure. Let me explain this a little. RTMPE: This new protocol is an enhanced and encrypted version of RTMP. RTMPE is faster than SSL and does not require certificate management as SSL does.  (supported with Flash Player 9,0,115,0 minimum; Adobe AIR; Adobe Media Player). So now all data which is passed to our server from flash player can be encrypted, we are working on an update to enable RTMPE/RTMPTE for all users who got FP version starting from 9,0,115,0.
