Adobe has informed that they are working on AEC support in Flash Player and it will be available later in the next release after 10.1, but we don’t want to wait another few years. In FP 10.1 we got access to microphone samples and playback samples and it makes possible to use some AEC. Although there are a lot of problems (only 44KHz playback mode) and async events firing our first tests showed that it actually works, but still have to solve some minor problems and adjust AEC for better quality. Prepare to have up to 40-50% of CPU load when AEC is working, but for most people AEC is worth it.

As you maybe know, there is still no Acoustic Echo Cancellation in Flash Player, it’s the problem for communication services if users aren’t equipped with a headsets. Finally, Adobe commented this issue and promised to add AEC to the next release of Flash Player, after 10.1.

After Silverlight 4 release for developers we are working on proof of concept - Silverlight version of Flaphone. Will post there as soon as we got something to test.

Hello. As you maybe now Google released first ChromeOS version yesterday. We have tested it and found that Flash Player 10.0.32.18 has been built-in. And yes, that means that Flaphone works in ChromeOS, so we already have VoIP client available for new OS! I remind you that you can use Flaphone to make VoIP calls to PSTN/Mobiles using any SIP provider you want, make calls to Skype or SIP, callme widgets will also work in ChromeOS. Great news!

CallMe widget upgraded again

First of all, it was fully rewritten without usage of Flex framework and now size of the widget is only 100Kb (compare with 383Kb of the previous version). Some bugs were fixed and new microphone selection panel was added, you can see it on the image:

In the near future we are going to add some new features to solve echo problem (because Adobe isn’t going to solve it in player itself).

CallMe widget improvements

CallMe widget was updated, we added some useful features. Now you can’t make a call without microphone, widget is using some smart system to check if you have microphone and if it works. If there is no signal coming from microphone it will show you the message:

Flaphone service was updated today (14.08.2009), because we updated our server’s software. We’ve fixed some bugs and added some new features our users asked us about: callhistory can be managed , call length timer. Now we are testing new version of our server, which is more powerful and stable, but as it’s new we still expecting some issues during the next week, please be patient if flaphone doesn’t work and send email with details to info@flaphone.com . We apologize, but because of new callhistory storage system you won’t find your old calls in callhistory.
